How to Join

The “Join” button can be found in a few places:

YouTube Memberships

Since about May 2024, I’m offered paid memberships for those that are willing and able to support financially. For $3 a month, you gain access to behind the scenes videos (see below), have your name listed at the end of each public video and also a badge will appear next to your username when you comment. This is a month to month sorta thing and can be cancelled at any time. All money earned goes back into the production of future videos (petrol, accommodation, equipment etc).

I’ve received a few emails from viewers saying they can’t see the “Join” button. This might happen if your YouTube account isn’t set to Australia (memberships aren’t available in all regions) or you’re using an Apple device. While I don’t think they’ve come out and said it specifically for the YouTube app, they’re known to hate in-app purchases which they can’t get a slice of. In this case, I’d recommend attempting to join through a browser instead. Logging into your YouTube account using Chrome (or alternative) should do the trick.

I will update this section as more information comes to light.

Car camping build log PLUS adventures!

I’ve built a car camping setup into my 2020 Subaru Forester as rural accommodation was costing a bomb and could be quite average. Plus, there is something a little bit romantic about drive around the country, filming ghost towns and then camping on the land somewhere. Or is that just me?

This video includes the build process, the initial test and some bonus, smaller adventures near where I camped.

Unusual and interesting places in Melbourne

Filmed while on holiday, I visited a range of locations similar to what I showcase in WA. I wasn’t driving while over there either, so every location is accessible by Melbourne’s grand public transport network (or at the very least, a short rideshare). I just want to point out that the membership isn’t paying for holidays. The holiday was paid for using my… you know, actual job. I was just being opportunistic. So, a big shoutout goes to Anneka who put up with it even though we were supposed to be relaxing (which I’m seemingly incapable of doing).

How I make my videos - Parts 1 & 2

Split across two videos, I delve into the process of how I make a video. In this case, the one about the Claise Brook. The videos include research (both at home and at the library), scripting, voice recording, editing and the upload process.

Cue Trip - Filming Vlog

This is a travel vlog of sorts for our second filming trip. We drove up to Cue in a day (stopping at a few filming locations along the way) and spent two nights there, visiting multiple ghost towns. We then drove to Geraldton (again, stopping to film at several locations) stayed there the night, and then hightailed it up to Kalbarri. We did make a stop on the way, but the several nights in Kalbarri were intended for R&R (ie hiking and kayaking).

Kalgoorlie Trip - Filming Vlog

The original Brendan’s Odyssey filming trip. We based ourselves in Kalgoorlie for three nights, filming locations in the region but also on the way there and back. It was fun, if a bit hectic (not helped by the fact we both had colds). I definitely spaced things out a bit more in the Cue trip (above).

What's in my camera bag?

Exactly what it says on the tin. I go through all the equipment I take on trips. This was filmed the night before we left for Kalgoorlie.
