Kookynie - Not Quite a Ghost Town
Kookynie, several hours north of Kalgoorlie, proliferated thanks to the discovery of gold in the 1890s. Within several decades, however, the mines started to close as they became untenable and the townsite shrank. What was once 400 buildings (including 7 licenced hotels) is now a handful of scatted brick ruins. It's not a ghost town, though! Approximately a dozen people still live here and there is even still an active pub, the Grand Hotel. Let's hop in the Kia and see what remains!
