Abandoned: Atlantis Marine Park

These photos were taken in February 2021

Opened in 1981 in the sunny suburb of Two Rocks, Atlantis Marine Park included performing dolphins and seals along with their super attractive keepers. It closed in 1990 after financial issues and the land has remained vacant ever since.

While it appears most of the structures were demolished soon after closure, all the ponds, a water tank and a massive statue of King Neptune were instead slowly enveloped by coastal scrub in the preceding decades.

I wish I brought my camera to take some better photos. While the phone did an okay job, most of what you see now was cleared in late 2021 for a new development. Thankfully, King Neptune is heritage-listed so he’s not going anywhere. But otherwise, there is nothing else remaining except for the lagoon and the car park.
