History: Point Peron Battery

These photos were taken in February 2014

Peron Battery was built in 1942 because of a disagreement at the time. You can read more about its history here.

This site will always have a special place in my heart because I believe it’s the direct reason I’m into exploration. In my childhood, my family would always stay in these ancient chalets off Point Peron Road, near the Garden Island Causeway.

It was super old-school - I don’t think there was even a TV! Instead, I spent plenty of time exploring the cape on foot including these WW2 ruins. They were in pretty rough shape when I was a kid and during this visit in 2014, but the site was added to the State Register of Heritage Places in 2019. Thankfully, it appears the location has been cleaned up a bit with new paths and a replica 155mm gun.
