Abandoned: Caversham (now Brabham) Mansion

These photos were taken in July 2012

These images mark the occasion of my first-ever urbex adventure. I had recently purchased the cheapest Canon DSLR on the market (an 1100D for those playing at home) and was just getting into photography. Hence, these photos are a bit rough and required quite a bit of editing, but hey - you have to start somewhere!

The history of this house is unknown publicly, but it was a well-known spot at the time. Rumours were flying around about tax evasion and a girl drowning in the lake. Let’s hope the latter wasn’t true!

According to historical aerial photography, it was built in 1985. It looks like it was abandoned around 2003, and from there, the property massively declined and was scrapped to high heaven. A highlight was the concrete pool which was a popular spot for skateboarding. I wish I was aware of it when I skated.

An American band even filmed a music video there. My memory says it was NOFX, but I couldn’t find the video. It’s somewhere on YouTube.

The mansion was eventually demolished in 2013. The land it sat on is now Jungle Park in Brabham!
